My annual fall colors trip, this time to Washington and Oregon. Inclement weather thwarted my attempt to enter The Enchantments in 2009, but this year was a success. Unfortunately, the larches had already peaked and most had either lost their needles, or were turning brown. Still, it was beautiful up there. I spent a couple of nights and then high tailed it back to Leavenworth, and drove south to Oregon, hoping the colors wouldn’t be as far along. I backpacked though the Jefferson Wilderness and had the whole park to myself, it seemed. On the way back to Seattle, I stopped by Oregon’s Painted Hills and then Proxy Falls. A wonderful week-long adventure!
