The Algodones Dunes Wilderness is a huge expanse of sand near the California-Mexico border. Huge expanses of sand can be very exciting if you’re into offroading or landscape photography. Otherwise, it’s pretty boring fare. We brought along the bare essentials and backpacked out to one of the high dunes for a night. I was a little worried that we might get run over by a wayward ATV in the middle of the night, but they never got very close. We were just north of Glamis, in an area that is off-limits. Lots of animal tracks and the photography was so-so. Sure glad that I brought along a bottle of wine. Not much else to do out there.
