Ever since Steve and I hiked The Subway in 2006, I’ve been wanting to go back with a larger group. This would be the year, or would it? We secured an online permit, but the ranger informed us that the water level was very high, forcing most parties to turn around at the 2nd obstacle. Without wetsuits and only a pittance of canyoneering experience, we decided to change our plans.
We hiked the popular trail to Angel’s Landing the following day, which made for some nice views of Zion Canyon. The Narrows area was closed due to high water, so we returned to camp and spent the rest of the trip amusing ourselves with grilled meats and adult beverages. We concluded the evening with a memorable game of High Rock Toss.
