Tom took a short break from his cardiology fellowship in NY and spent some time on the fun coast. We surfed San Onofre (small and mixed-up) and climbed in Poway and Mission Gorge. I forgot my camera, but we used our iPhones to record some memorable events. Halfway up Snapping Turtle (5.10) on Lone Star Wall in Poway, a shoe-sized chunk of rock broke off and went hurtling down towards Tom’s head. We both purchased helmets at REI the next day. I led my first sport climb, a 3-bolt unnamed ~5.7 on Lone Star Wall. Good times.
