Maui
A fine mix of tropical adventure on this trip. We stayed in the upscale town of Wailea (courtesy of Jasmine’s parents), but made day trips all over the island. We drove the bumpy south road to Hana in our minivan rental. Surfed Lahaina Breakwall (nearly flat) and drove up to Haleakala for the sunrise. On […]

Ecuador
Ecuador really is a beautiful country! We spent the first half of the trip at a jungle lodge outside of Tena, the “cinnamon capital” of Ecuador. The Hakuna Matata Lodge served as the jumping off point for several adventures, including a day of rafting down the Rio Napo (a major tributary of the Amazon). The […]

Huanchaco, Peru
Our first surf trip to Peru, the land of lefts. We stayed in Huanchaco, just outside of Trujillo on the north coast. This area is a lot like Baja California: dusty and dry, and chilly water. We surfed some fun waves in Huanchaco, and also spent a day catching the longest rides of our lives […]

Our new buddy Edwin joined the Wilderness Innovations crew and offered a welcome change to our somewhat predictable surf trip dynamic. We surfed Airport Lefts, Kuta Reef, Kuta Beach, and Bingin on […]

La Fonda, Mexico
Independence Day fell on a Wednesday this year, but that was no excuse not to get out and party like rockstars. With the demise of the annual Mammoth trip for reasons unknown, we decided to head south to catch some waves. After checking a flat San Miguel, we settled on La Fonda, which rarely disappoints. […]

Waikiki, Hawaii
A very quick trip out to Waikiki for Perry and Justine’s wedding. I spent a day at the Waikiki Aquarium and met with aquarist Charles Delbeek, who recently installed a pair of AquaC skimmers on their leafy sea dragon exhibits. The surf was decent, and I had some fun on a foam rental.
