Mads and I visited the White Mountains, which are home to several groves of Ancient Bristlecone Pines. These are some of the oldest living things on Earth, and I have long been fascinated by them. This is a dry, barren environment that receives little rain and fierce winds. We made our photographs and camped under the clear night sky, and then spent the following day poking around Mono Lake. On the way home, we made a quick stop at Schat’s Bakery in Bishop and admired the late Galen Rowell’s work at his nearby gallery.
